So it’s been too long, again. This seems to keep happening… hmm. Well, below is a lead sheet to Kenny Dorham’s tune “Prince Albert” off the album The Jazz Messengers at the Cafe Bohemia Vol 1. Not exactly the shortest album title, but descriptive at the very least. The album features Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor, Horace Silver on piano, Art Blakey on drums, and Doug Watkins on bass – a veritable who’s who of hard bop musicians. The tune is based on the changes to the jazz standard “All The Things You Are“. Listen to the tune on Youtube – Kenny’s solo is great, as he always is.
Below is a lead sheet to Duke Pearson’s tune “Minor League” as played by Grant Green on his work of art album Solid. It’s a C minor blues with an interesting melody – a lot of movement in fourths. I cannot recommend this album enough – Grant Green with Joe Henderson on sax, McCoy Tyner on piano, and Elvin Jones on drums (among others) – you can’t go wrong. Check it out!
